after handing a devastating 107:81 loss to a highly-rated melbourne team last week the townville crocodiles have plenty reasons to celebrate. the main one is corey williams who showed a dominant performance of 31 points and sevens assists. after the game his opponent’s coach already called homicide a younger and stronger version of nbl legend darryl mcdonald - and “the most dangerous one” has only been in australia for a month and a half …

VERY HONORABLE MENTION: SERGEY BYKOV
our russian national team warrior sergey bykov scored 24 points in 27 minutes of action in dynamo moscows 83:76 uleb victory over greek squad panelliniuos. hitting 5/11 from 3-point range, sergey was able to continue his stellar play, after lifting dynamo to a highly emotional victory over city-rival cska last week, by hitting the game winning trey with three seconds to go. dynamo moscow still leads group f in uleb cup standings …

corey williams is ballin outta control in australia’s nbl. no wonder playground bilble bounce magazine just featured a personal diary blog by 187 personally. also, witness the fitness of his special make-up k1x nyc chiefglider …

for those who don’t know, now you know: the scariest big man on new york’s streetball circuit is now officially a k1x warrior - welcome to the fam dee pee! playing professionally on spain’s second divison powerhouse in zaragoza (7:2), this weekend phillip and his squad took on second place team alicante, and crushed them 84:60 on their home turf. the big man, who many know mainly by his legendary street-name “primal fear”, led the way with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. dp’s season-stats currently rank him second in ppg (20.3), third in efficiency (21.6), along with 6.7 rebounds per game. ay caramba!

these three limited edition k1x silhouettes in distinguished cracked leather uppers are likely to turn more heads than the continental gt. meet the parents, club selecao and lazy layup, available now at fine stores, like Foot Locker Europe or www.kickz.com.

Corey williams has been named to the nbl all star game. the raining player of the week earned his spot in the world’s all star squad that will square off against the aussie all star team in Melbourne on December 12th. Make sure to watch when the “silver surfer” goes head to head with the nbl’s best. For all the information you need see www.nbl.com/au!

welcome to k1x’s new category, “player of the week”, where we will regularly be honoring the best k1x warriors on all levels. so if you feel you deserve a shout-out, let us know … we tip off today with a look at last week and two special family members:
1. ROBERTO AUFIERO
In a 115:86 victory over the iserlohn kangaroos the 2,05-m forward used his playing time of just 17 minutes to become the topscorer for his Munich basket team with 24 points. Those came on 11 of 11 from the field and 2 of 2 from the foul line. His five rebounds – three of them on the offensive glass – one block and one steal earned him the player of the day honors.

2. COREY “HOMICIDE” WILLIAMS
The NBL Player of the Week for round nine may be just the first of many awards coming Homicide’s way. Since joining up in Far North Queensland, Williams has brought respectability to the Crocs, offering himself as a true playmaker worth 22 points per game. Not merely pacing a mediocre team, his play has opened up the court for JR, Pepper, Young, Robertson and Cedar to grab the looks they prefer and charged the Townsville hardwood with an energy and an eagerness unique to himself. The hard runs in practice, and the knack Homicide has for controlling the tempo, elevates his MVP credentials above all the other point guard imports in the L. Getting to the hoop at will is one thing, distributing the rock to the tune of five dimes a game and being the leader is something else altogether and, as the highest profile import in the country this year, Homicide’s game is fitting the bill. possibly the next wunderkind outta germany, lucca staiger - freshman at iowa state university, recently received a maximum penalty of one year eligibility loss by the ncaa. why? because he was good enough to play on a 2nd league squad, steeples ehingen. the team is well respected for constantly producing big time talent, which means integrating high schoolers in men’s play, a common practice in european basketball. ehingen always boasts the youngest player average in the league, and makes major contributions in regards to schooling young players. steeples ehingen is closely linked to the basketball academy urspring, which has dominated almost every category of under-18 competition over the last several years.
lucca and other high schoolers that have gone (and are still going) through the ehingen/urspring programm never received improper compensation, a fact which the ncaa has clearly acknowledged. the problem seems to be that the ncaa has concluded steeples ehingen to be a “professional” team, because two players (vets) received benefits in excess of ncaa limits. but does that make lucca a professional? we think not. he never got paid! all he got was a beautiful j, uncanny court vision and a knack for the unexpected assist. let the boy play!

lucca staiger and nicolai simon (now with euro league squad alba berlin) got their basketball education at urspring academy. which paid off big time, strictly figuratively speaking!

lucca was selected at top prospect at the “dirk nowitzki basketball academy” in 2004
