Corey “Homicide“ Williams has obviously made the right decision by signing with the Dakota Wizards in late February. The Wizards beat Williams’ former team the Sioux Falls Skyforce 115-113 on Saturday. They will now face the Colorado 14ers on Sunday, April 29th at 6:00 p.m. CT.
“Homicide” and his Dakota Wizards now have a shot at the NBDL title at the Bismarck Civic Center after winning 19 of their 25 home games this season.
Corey Williams has contributed 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest in the 20 games he has played for the Eastern Conference champion. In the Conference Finals against Sioux Falls he was one of the reasons why the Wizards made it past the Skyforce, pouring in 16 points (on 6-9 from the field) and 6 assists in just 21 minutes.
“Homicide”, who is probably going to be a starter for Sunday’s game, is now trying to put an exclamation point behind a very successful season in the NBDL.

grady reynods became the first player ever to win both, the slam dunk contest and mvp of the polish all-star game. after stints argentina, iceland and israel, the red storm alum is taking the first polish league (DBE) by storm: cleaning boards, abusing rims and killing opponents with nasty rejections. and guess what… he’s doin’ in the k1x strictly business.

our man in poland michi beta talked to gr after the slam dunk contest….

bio:
Team: Polonia Warsaw, Poland
Position: Forward
Height: 6’6’’ (196 cm)
Born: 1980-02-26
Birthplace: Abbeville, Alabama (USA)
College: St. John’s, New York
2007 Polish League All-Star Game MVP
2007 Polish League Slam Dunk Contest Champion
Stats per game: 16 pts, 8.5 rebs, 2 blks, 2 stls, 55% from the field

What are your expectations for the rest of this season?
As a team we lost our chance to reach playoffs, so I would say that keeping the first division. And when it comes to the individual… I don’t care about stats. I just wanna play to win. That’s what I do.

What would you like to achieve next season? Where would you like to play?
For that question it’s too early right now.

But if you could choose right now.
I woulda say Spain. To be on a good team, make playoffs and play for a championship. That would be the best thing.

What do you plan to do on summer?
Playing and just workout. Work on my jumpshot and one-on-one stuff.

What is your basketball dream?
Every basketball player’s dream is make it to the NBA. That’s my dream.

Do you think you can reach the NBA at this point of your career?
Not right now. Maybe in year or two.

What’s your favorite basketball moment until now?
My favorite moment… Well it had to be our win in NIT championships (Ed. National Invitation Tournament, New York, 2003 - St. John’s vs. Georgetown 70:67). That’s got to be the one up to now… cause that’s the only championship I won… the biggest one.

Whats your vertical?
They measured it in college. i forgot. It was like 35 inches.

Have you trained your leap using the special programmes like jumpsoles?
No, I didn’t train it using anything like that.

How old and tall were you when you made your first dunk?
Oh, maybe 15 years old, 10th grade I think. I was like 6’2”.

And what’s your best dunk?
360-arm-in-the-rim, that’s the best one.

How can you describe your game? What are your strengths and weaknesses?
I’m a great athlete, great defender, great rebounder, that plays both ends. I call them basketball players, who can do some of everything. Weakness, I will have to say, my pull up jumper.

What basketball means to you?
Basketball is my life.

Who’s your favorite player?
My favorite player in the NBA woulda be Steve Nash.

And who was your favorite player when you were a kid?
It gotta be Grant Hill. Of course Michael was everybody’s favorite player but Grant Hill was tough.

What can you say about the Polish League?
Polish League is ok. I’m not a very experienced player and I haven’t played in a lot of leagues… but it’s really physical. It’s a good league.

How do you find our country?
Poland is good. Warsaw is a nice city. You have some nice people here. Pretty much Americanized I guess.

I heard that you met Ron Artest. What would you tell him about Poland?
Wow. What would I tell Ron about Poland? Look better in your rearview mirror when you’re leaving (laughs). Nah, Poland is pretty good. I won’t tell him anything about basketball cause now he’s in the NBA. But I would tell him it’s a nice place. He might come here when he ain’t got nothing to do. It’s not a best place in the world and not the worst place in the world. It’s a nice country.

Who do you think is the best local and foreign player in our league?
You have a lot of good players. Andrzej Pluta is good, Wojciech Szawarski is good, Robert Witka is good… But I don’t know which one is the best Polish player. I really don’t know. Nobody stands enough over all. To me… I think Przemek Frasunkiewicz is the best right now. And from the foreign players…

Otis Hill? Tony Akins? Dean Oliver?
I would say I’m the best foreign player over here(laughs). I play on both ends of the floor. Yeah, that’s a no brain (laughs).

You have played in the Entertainers Basketball Classic at Rucker Park, the most famous 5-on-5 streetball tournament. What can you say about it?
It’s a lot of tricks out there but they do play serious. It’s a tough place to play. But I don’t like all the tricks and stuff. I like to play organized basketball. I played out there when I was in college back in 2003. It was nice to go and see everybody. You know, the players and celebrities coming out there.

Did you play against the NBA players over there?
Smush Parker was one of them. Amare and Bron came out there but they didn’t play.

Do the NBA players play hard in Rucker?
Some of them play hard out there and some of them don’t. Someone could get hurt. You know Ron Artest he plays hard out there but I haven’t played against him.

We recently hooked you on k1x, what dou you think?
They got some really nice stuff. My teammates keep on asking me about it and we’re waiting for the new collection.

One of the K1X mottos is: “You can’t teach heart”. How do you get to these words?
Yeah, It sounds good. It’s something that you earn back in the days playing on the playgrounds. “You gonna roll it over or you gonna play, you gonna take a challenge or you ain’t”.

“i apologize to my wife and my family. i want to apologize to the kings, to my teammates, the nba and everybody that supported me. for another incident to come up is very unfortunate. i definitely want to apologize for my behavior, even to the former teams I played on — they showed a lot of support. (I apologize) to david stern, to the nba, to all the players. the league is doing so well right now, and its guys like kevin martin, who is playing well. ron artest is once again in the media for something other than basketball. i want to apologize to everybody out there, once again to the kings and the sacramento fans and the sacramento people in general for my actions and my behavior.”

“i’m definitely (humbled) by what happened with my family and I took a step back as being a father and a husband and I’m looking forward to the day where I can make that right, with my family.”

“i’m definitely going to be involved with other families who are involved in a similar crisis such as the one I have been involved in this past week. i think there are a lot of families who could benefit from what I could say or let them know what I’ve been through. so, hopefully there are people in situations where they can better their families and better their kids. and hopefully better their marriage and their relationships. we’ll be involved with some assistance and hopefully be involved with the community of sacramento, most important. i’m definitely trying to do the right thing and send the right message because this is not something to be proud about at all.”

“i’m looking forward to getting back, it was fun practicing today with all the guys. i appreciate all my teammates who reached out to me and showed support to my family and to myself. thank you.”

international fans all over are excited to see the tru warier back on the hardwood. this artest mural from naples in italy just recahed us….

“artest punches bossy photographer with right hand, chokes nosy journalist with left, kicks helpless, homelesss kitten and threatens the president’s life all at the same time!” not really, but this trace magazine feature by steve mascatello is still a great, compelling read. just because it goes alot deeper than most stories about ron artest. “keeping it real”is probably the best description for this piece.

Ron Artest_rappin to

slam-online’s sam rubenstein is the first to review ron ron’s debut album “my world”, and is betting nba commish david stern will have it squashed by thanksgiving. in terms of controversy, “my world” apparently makes iverson`s “40 bars” sound like a nursery rhyme. read more on “the greatest album in the history of rapping basketball players” on slamonline.com!

rasheed sparks and roberto aufiero

remember our limited “white boy with hops” and “brother with range” tees? most of you loved them, some of you hated them…obviously, they messed with two of basketballs favorite racial cliches. we featured the above ad (which pictures team k1x alley-oop monster roberto aufiero and rasheed sparks) in slam magazines 10th anniversary issue, back in the winter of 2003.

one of our team k1x dunkers actually got his nickname from the notorious white boy tee. fabian greiser, 21, of rosenheim is probably the best dunker in germany today. an astoundingly wide array of dunks, surgeon-like precision and crazy hops made him the back-to-back slam dunk champion at germany`s nr.1 streetball event, the nba basketball challenge (2004 & 2005).

fabian was invited by our friends over at streetball.co.uk, to participate in their fifth annual all-star game. held at chessington square in south london, the game always features the flashiest ballers from the uk (and beyond). this year, the “flashiest player” award went to 6′ 8″ matthew bryan. matthew (18) is currently at south kent high school in connecticut and has commited to the university of washington for the 2007/08 season. it was fabian who shut down the dunk contest by jumping over everything and everyone. peep the highlight video here (thanks greg!).

For those who don’t know, now you know…Here’s a bit of k1x history & philosphy (light version):

k1x – Grounded in basketball lifestyle since 1993.

The k1x brand (spoken „kay-one-ex“) evolved naturally from the acknowledged basketball & sneaker specialist store „KICKZ“ and the trail-blazing internet site www.kickz.com. Building an own brand was a logical consequence for an experienced company with a vision and an edge.

At k1x almost every position, from ceo to facility manager, is played by active ballers, making niche expertise and credibility the company’s foundation. Rain-Man-like attention to basketball-specific details are a question of honor. So premium functionality and fresh urban styles at „ballers 4 ballers“ pricing define every k1x product.

k1x is the first basketball lifestyle brand to simultaneously emphasize on-court and off-court styles. Because a basketball player will always be a basketball player, whether he be ballin’, in the club or at his mom’s. The product range consists of various performance basketball- and street kicks, hiking boots, hiking boots, tees, suits, jerseys, shorts, caps, knits, beanies, crewnecks, hoodies, socks, jackets, balls, jeans, bags and various other accessories.

In 2002, k1x launched ist first performance sneaker, the „Chiefglider“ which has appeared in over 20 different variations (one of them designed by sneaker don Bobbito Garcia) and received rave reviews by mags (SOLE Magazine, SLAMS’s KICKS…) and tested sneaker sites like Prof. K’s www.kicksolgy.net. November 2005 was a milestone in k1x history: NBA star and Tru Warier Ron Artest decided to sign with us, making him the first NBA player to officially rock the k1x „Chiefglider“ on the hallowed hardwood of the NBA. The ultimate validation for k1x, because Ron is what we are all about: „You can’t teach heart.“

In 2005, k1x gave birth to the „Strictly Business“ and „Evo“, two pure breed on-court performers. The range of off-court sneakers like the „Lazy Layup“, „Club Selecao“, „Look Ma, No Shoelaces“, „Meet the Parents“ and the „H1ke“ boot continues to expand and make non-believers check the stats. Grass-roots partnerships with institutions and originators like Rucker Park, Team Sierra Leone or Bobbito Garcia have made k1x the „got next“ phenom. Today, k1x-Nation of Hoop is sold in over 25 countries worldwide. Others had their turn to flex, k1x is up next.
